At Kingdom Builders, we know that our team plays a big part in who we are. Besides being some of the best in the industry, they’re simply good people who love what they do. Trustworthy, dependable, and detailed oriented, they always go above and beyond.

To give you a better understanding of what our team members do, and who they are, we’ll be highlighting a few of them from time to time.

To start, here’s a couple of folks leading the way at Kingdom Builders:

Paul Lilley, Principal/Owner

Why did you start Kingdom Builders? What has always been your vision for the company?

We’ve always had a passion for building homes and helping our clients realize their dreams. With backgrounds in residential construction and industrial project management, we knew we could bring to the market a high level of service, with a quality product to match. Our vision has always been to be the most efficient, and sustainable, quality custom home builder in Greater Vancouver. Since we started our business, we are proud of our accomplishments and how far we have come.

Why did you go into this field?

Earlier in my career, I was an industrial engineer and worked on large multi-million dollar projects. While I enjoyed what I did, I had a desire to utilize my skills in a different way. Being a custom builder is gratifying. There is something very special about being given the opportunity to build someone’s home. Knowing that we are somehow contributing to people’s lives and helping them create a place where they can raise their families and build memories, means a lot. There’s no better feeling than completing a project and handing over the keys to the homeowner.

What sets Kingdom Builders apart from the rest?

We care about what we do and take pride in our work. We are also transparent, and always keep the lines of communication open. With a strong commitment to sustainability, our goal is to make a more positive impact on the world around us, one home at a time.

Why is sustainable living so important?

With more and more consumers moving toward “greener” homes, there is increasing demand for builders to incorporate sustainable elements into their projects. We have always been environmentally conscious and it has become standard practice for us to incorporate energy efficient elements into every one of our home builds. As leaders in this area, we consistently look for ways to take sustainable living to a whole new level. Over the past few years, we have utilized our expertise and have built some of the first certified Passive House projects in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.

Herb Derrick, Site Lead

What does your job entail and why is it important?
As Site lead, my job requires me to be the eyes, ears, and voice on a job site. I’m basically the main liaison between our clients, the management team, and the architects, designers, contractors, etc. I help to ensure that every aspect of the build runs smoothly from beginning to end.

How do you approach each project?

Kingdom Builders is second to none when it comes to the planning process. Our project sequencing template and comprehensive software program contain all of the drawings, selections, suppliers, and more. This helps to ensure that I have everything I need to keep each job running as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

Of all the places you could work, why did you choose Kingdom Builders?

Kingdom Builders has a great reputation. They are known for their quality workmanship, impeccable organizational processes, and a supportive/respectful work environment. They are also leaders in sustainable/green building practices. To me, it is important to work for a company that is considered one of the best, and to be in a role that allows me to grow and expand my knowledge in all areas of construction.

What’s the best part of your job?

Seeing a project through from beginning to end, is one of the best parts of my job. There is so much involved in building a home and it is always satisfying to see it all come together.
