The goal of this project was to build a Net Zero home. Our clients wanted to have many of the features of both Passive House and LEED houses without the formal certification. In addition, they wanted to emphasize the use of green, natural and eco-friendly materials that are sustainable and minimize the use of harmful chemicals to create a healthy home.  LINK TO PROJECT BOOK

Sustainable Highlights:


  •      90% of the house was salvaged or donated
  •      An airtightness rating of 0.19 air changes per hour (ACH)
  •      Raft slab on 12” EPS insulation with an R-value of R-30
  •      11” thick exterior walls with an R-value of R-32
  •      15” thick roof assembly with an R-value of R-31
  •      Air tight and vapour controlling SIGA SA500 building envelope
  •      Cascadia triple pane high performance local windows
  •      Electric heat pump condensing clothes dryer
  •      Sanden CO2 ecofriendly heat pump water tank
  •      Zehnder ComfoAir Q450 HRV system
  •      Net zero home with 27 solar panels generating 10,400 kWh/year
  •      LED lighting
